WELLINGTON, Fla. – Kyle Willman of Palm City broke the course record by four shots Wednesday at The Wanderers Club with a 10 under par 62 to earn his fifth Fuzion Minor League Golf Tour victory. Willman, 30, birdied all four par-3 holes, three of which played longer than 200 yards long. Overall, he made five birdies on each nine, at Nos. 2, 3, 5, 6 and 9, and at 11, 12, 13, 15 and 17. The par-3s are the third, the short fifth, 11 and 15. Willman won his first MLGT start on Feb. 15, 2008, and has four victories this year. He received $825 from the $4,605 purse, raising his career earnings to $15,950. There were 38 starters in the MLGT’s 70th tournament of the year. Willman, and the four players that shot 67, Mike Adamson, Jimmy Lytle, Brad Klapprott and LeBrun all gained ground on Tim Turpen who shot 68 and leads the Q-School contest with 3 events to play. Yesterday's winner Sunny Kim is in second place, $256.76 behind Turpen, and Kyle Willmann moved into third place. 11 of the top 12 players still have a shot at the bonus going into the final week----Steve LeBrun is ineliglble since he already won the February contest (he also finished in the top spot in the March contest). The three 18-hole events next week will complete the fifth Q School contest of the year: Monday, Hammock Creek GC, Palm City; Tuesday, Abacoa GC, Jupiter; and Thursday, Jacaranda GC, Plantation. The winner has his entry fee paid into the PGA Tour’s national qualifying tournament later this year. |
